We're James & Eleanor, a couple from Newcastle with a soft spot for beautiful clothes. Eleanor chooses, James second-guesses, and only when we both love it does it go in the shop. It really is that simple.

Mercer & Loxley didn't start with a grand plan. It grew out of habit. We were always picking out clothes for the women around us: a sister, a friend, a mum. At some point we thought: why not for the women we haven't met yet? Many of our best finds, by the way, happen on the road: in a small Italian village, on a terrace in the south of France. That's where we see how women dress for the lives they actually have, and we bring that back with us.

What matters to us is simple. A dress should fit the way a dress is meant to fit. A set should be made well enough that you still want to wear it after a season. And the price should be fair, not just for us, but for you too.

Our customers are women at all sorts of points in their lives. Off to a wedding, a dinner, a holiday, or just a neighbour's birthday. Women with a day to themselves, and women with a diary that's overflowing. We pick pieces for all of those moments, because we know what it's like to stand in front of the mirror the night before, still hesitating.
